Minister Hyseni meets Foreign Minister of Singapore

New York, 25 September 2010 – Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Skender Hyseni, met in New York the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Republic of Singapore, George Yeo, with whom he discussed recent developments regarding Kosovo and requested that his Government analyze the possibility of taking a swift decision about formal recognition of the state of Kosovo.

While talking about recent developments relating to Kosovo, Minister Hyseni said that after the clear Opinion of the International Court of Justice that Kosovo’s Declaration of Independence is in accordance with international law, and after approval of the resolution of the General Assembly, which welcomed this Opinion, there are no legal or political reasons for states which have not yet recognized Kosovo, to delay further with recognition.

The Foreign Minister of Singapore, Yeo, told Minister Hyseni that, "we have been waiting for the Court’s decision" before taking a decision regarding recognition and after the announcement of the Court’s Opinion "we are studying it with great care".
