Kosovo Foreign Ministry opens national competition for the best photo #InstaKosova

Prishtina, 14 January 2013 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, as part of celebrations for the fifth anniversary of the Declaration of Kosovo’s Independence, has opened a competition for the best photo taken by Kosovo citizens published in the internet social media. This activity is part of the Strategy on Digital Diplomacy, supported by the British Council and the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.

The national competition for the best photo is open until January 28, 2013. A professional jury will evaluate the best photo for the category Places in Kosovo, People in Kosovo and Events in Kosovo. The best 10 photos will be rewarded with 250 Euros while the winner of the best photo in each category, will win 800 Euros. The 100 best photos will be published in a special publication. The only condition is that the photo be posted on the social networks, Instagram, Facebook, or Flicker, to the profiles of Kosovars in the last five years.

Kosovo’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Petrit Selimi said that the national competition #InstaKosova honors the hundreds and thousands of Kosovars who post beautiful and magnificent photos each year of Kosovo and Kosovo’s people, doing more to advertise Kosovo than any advertising campaign. “Wanting to recognize the great work and creativity of people, we have decided to do this competition, considering especially photos published in the photo network Instagram”, said Selimi.

Adriatik Kelmendi, TV producer and journalist and head of the professional jury welcomed the initiative saying that, “this open competition is the best way to exploit the creative potential of Kosovars to create a different image of Kosovo.”

Arjeta Emra, Director of the British Council said she was proud over the year to be supporting many creative projects in Digital Diplomacy. “The British Council across the globe is known for digital diplomacy and this type of competition is a good example of cooperation between diplomats, artists and citizens for a wonderful goal like celebrating the fifth anniversary of independence”, said Emra.
