Kuwait formally recognizes the Republic of Kosovo
The decision which was taken days in advance by the government of Kuwait was communicated officially to Enver Hoxhaj, minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Kosovo by his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, during a meeting which took place in Kuwait.
During a press conference held in the capital Kuwait City, the Kuwait foreign affairs minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah and the minister foreign affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, announced the decision of the government of the State of Kuwait for the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo.
We have actually waited for the visit by minister Hoxhaj to publish yesterdays decision to accept Kosovos independence. I wish our brothers in Kosovo peace and all the best. We will have diplomatic relations and we will begin our economic cooperation, addded Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah.
He said that Kuwait is late with the decision to recognize Kosovo, but as he put it, the government of Kuwait has waited for the verdict of the International Court of Justice which was positive for Kosovo.
On the other hand, the minister foreign affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, said today that this was one of the happiest days of life and of the people of Kosovo as well. I am honoured that my visit was particularly chosen to make your decision public. This decision will contribute to peace and stability in the Balkans. We will soon come up with concrete proposals for political and economic cooperation, said minister Hoxhaj at the joint press conference with his Kuwaiti counterpart.

The Kuwaiti emirate has a territory of 17,820 square kilometers and a population of around 3.6 million inhabitants. Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system.
