Minister Hyseni meets Foreign Minister of Zambia and other senior representatives

As part of the series of intensive meetings and conversations developing with countries that have not yet recognized the state of Kosovo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Skender Hyseni, today met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zambia, Kabinga Pande, in New York.

In this meeting, Minister Hyseni talked about recent developments regarding Kosovo and the achievements of the newest state, with regard to internal and international consolidation. The Minister focused particularly on the contents and importance of the Advisory Opinion of 22nd July of the International Court of Justice, and Resolution of 9th September of the UN General Assembly regarding this Opinion.

Minister Hyseni said that the International Court of Justice spoke clearly on 22nd July, eliminating any remaining doubt existing regarding the legality of Kosovo’s independence, since the Court decided in Kosovo’s favor on all points. Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the Resolution of the UN General Assembly, which welcomed the Court Opinion. With regard to the dialogue process, the Minister said that this resolution, drafted by the European Union, conclusively confirmed the exclusion of any negotiations over status, emphasizing the fact that the resolution mentions a dialogue process to promote cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia. The Minister emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo is ready to cooperate with the Republic of Serbia on a State-to-State basis, for practical issues of common interest, while the two states aspire and advance toward European integration.

In the meeting, Minister Hyseni repeated his call to the Government of the Republic of Zambia to recognize the Republic of Kosovo.

With regard to Zambia’s position on the request for recognition, the Foreign Minister Kabinga Pande said that Zambia is studying carefully the International Court of Justice’s Opinion and is closely following developments about Kosovo, and that the request will be reviewed after his return from visiting New York.

During the day Minister Hyseni also met with the General Secretary of the Arab League of States, Amr Moussa, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Karel Schwarzenberg, and other senior representatives staying in New York during the 65th plenary session of the General Assembly.
