The Islamic Republic of Mauritania recognized the Republic of Kosovo

After intensive communications between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Kosovo and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and meetings at the foreign ministers of both countries, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, on 12 January 2010, has taken the decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.

The announcement was made today for recognition through the General Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in New York, with a note verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo.

“Referring to the letter of his Excellency, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, sent to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mauritania has the honour to notify the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo that the Islamic Republic of Mauritania has recognized Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state and has taken the decision to establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level," reads inter alia, the note verbale recognition.

The note verbal further reads that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania has expressed the conviction that this decision opens great opportunities for the development of bilateral relations and cooperation with mutual interest in all aspects, political, economic, social and cultural.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is the 65th country to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.

The Republic Islamic of Mauritania is located in Northwest Africa and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Senegal, Mali, Alger and Morocco.
