Iraq is considering the request for recognition of Kosovo

During his stay in New York, Skender Hyseni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, has been holding a series of meetings with his counter-parts representing countries which have not recognized Kosovo.

The goal of these meetings was to lobby for recognition of Kosovo’s independence, and Minister Hyseni focused on the importance of this process and repeated the Kosovo Government’s request for recognition.

One of these meetings took place with Hoshyar Zabari, Foreign Minister of Iraq.
In this meeting, Minister Hyseni explained Kosovo’s progress and its contribution to peace and stability in the region, and he also repeated the call for recognition of Kosovo by Iraq.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister assured Minister Hyseni that Kosovo’s recognition was being studied closely and that he would forward the Minister’s request to his Government. Minister Zabari also stated that, “we understand the right of peoples to self-determination”.
