A report on meetings held by Minister Hyseni today in New York

During his stay in New York, where he participated in the meeting of the Security Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Skender Hyseni also held various meetings with representatives of countries accredited to the United Nations.

New York, 18 June 2009

In this context, he met with the representative of the League of Arab States at the United Nations, Mr. Yahya A. Mahmassani. In the meeting, Minister Hyseni talked about the most recent developments in Kosovo, he repeated the request to establish regular communication channels, and he spoke about the importance of the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by the Arab League states. Ambassador Mahmassani said that the question of Kosovo is being discussed by the Arab League and he assured the Minister that there would be a gradual progress, since, “the majority of Arab states are on your side”.

In New York, Minister Hyseni had a meeting also with the permanent representative of the Bahamas to the UN, Ambassador Paulette A. Bethel. In this meeting, Minister Hyseni talked about Kosovo’s progress, the founding of democratic institutions, based on European standards, and membership in international political and financial organizations.

Minister Hyseni also repeated the call for the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo. Ambassador Paulette A. Bethel said that she would pass on all this information and the repeated request for recognition to her Government.

In the meeting with the permanent representative of Mozambique to the United Nations, Ambassador Filipe Chidumo, Minister Hyseni repeated his request for recognition by Mozambique. Ambassador Chidumo congratulated Minister Hyseni for Kosovo’s many achievements and he assured him that the question of Kosovo is being discussed and remains on Mozambique’s agenda.

In addition, the Ambassador of Mozambique assured Minister Hyseni that he would pass on, once again, the request for recognition, to his Government.
