Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rejhan Vuniqi: Kosovo will comply with the SAA obligations regarding the air qualityPrishtine, 10 November 2017 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rejhan Vuniqi attended the roundtable on "Air Quality in Kosovo, Challenges and Actions".
In her speech to the attendees, Deputy Minister Vuniqi assessed that environmental protection is a global issue and is not an isolated issue of any country or nation. According to her, the issue of environmental pollution and in particular air pollution is becoming evident in all countries of the world, regardless of size, level of development or their geographical position.
“Undoubtedly, the Republic of Kosovo is part of this global agenda in terms of improving the air and its quality, which is taking concrete steps to improve air quality, mainly through the creation of renewable resources up to 20 % of energy production, expected to be achieved by 2020", stated Vuniqi.
Deputy Minister Vuniqi also spoke about the engagement of Kosovo's institutions on this issue. "There is no dilemma that the Republic of Kosovo will implement with high responsibility all the obligations arising from the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union, regarding air quality. Kosovo needs and will be in full coordination with the EU, on plans and actions related to transport policy, agriculture and climate change, as they are considered to have an enormous impact on air quality", she said.
According to Deputy Minister Vuniqi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, having a legal obligation to protect the general interest of its citizens, seeks from and supports the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning to intensify the meetings of the National Council of Kosovo on Climate Change and show positive results in this regard.
At the end of her speech, Vuniqi underlined that it is encouraging that one of the components of the US Corporation Investment Program, MCC Millennium Challenge Corporation, will focus on revitalizing the air quality control points throughout Kosovo and in line with the commitment of USA for sustainable and long-term development for the Republic of Kosovo.
This conference was attended by Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, Ministers of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and other local and international representatives.
