Kosovo and Macedonia agreed in the joint meeting to support each other, during next year, in regional, European initiatives and international organizations stated Foreign Minister Pacolli

Prishtina, 25 October 2017 – First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Behgjet Pacolli, started his visit to the Republic of Macedonia by meeting his counterpart, Foreign Minister of Macedonia, Mr. Nikolla Dimitrov.

In this first official meeting, both ministers firstly agreed that the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Macedonia shall hold the meeting between the two Governments early next year.

Such meetings between the two respective Governments are aimed to be held twice a year, and political consultations will soon begin on the preparation of topics and agenda. The two chief diplomats have agreed to have even closer, informal relations with regular daily contacts and that both countries support each other at the regional level, the path towards Euro-Atlantic integrations as well as at the international level.

There was a full agreement and joint commitment from both sides aiming to reach new agreements, about nineteen, as they already exist between the two countries and aiming at the further deepening of economic cooperation, trade exchange and joint regional initiatives.

In addition, the new proposals by Foreign Minister Pacolli to remove the current obstacles/barriers in the movement of goods and the establishment of a common customs and customs terminal, then the establishment of a Free Economic Zone between the two countries, the establishment of a Joint Holding for Railways, Energy Transmission and Infrastructure, were welcomed by the Macedonian side, expressing readiness for further discussion and the necessary coordination with the line ministries.

In the margins of the meeting, Foreign Minister Pacolli welcomed the cooperation and the approach that the new Macedonian Government has established with the political representatives of the Albanian community in Macedonia, giving a new spirit of relaxation and improvement of relations between multi-ethnic communities, who live in the country of Macedonia.

In the meeting was also discussed the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and the issue of finding a solution to the name dispute in Macedonia's relations with Greece, and the two chiefs of diplomacy expressed commitment and will to reach agreements that would have a positive impact on the region, emphasizing that 2018 should be the European Year of the Western Balkans.
