The Week of Tolerance and Reconciliation concludes with a public lecture by H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan on “Quran and Love”

Thursday 29 May 2014, Prishtina

The Week of Tolerance and Reconciliation concluded with a public lecture by H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the concept of Love based on the Holy Quran. During the lecture, Prince Ghazi cited verses from the Holy Quran that epitomize God as the embodiment of love, as well as provided references to the love of family, friends, and neighbors. H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad’s lecture relied on his book “Love in the Holy Quran.” Copies of the book were distributed after the lecture to the 350 lecture participants.

President of the Republic of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga introduced Prince Ghazi, emphasizing His Royal Highness’s efforts in promoting harmonious interfaith relations. President Jahjaga said:

“We often talk about borders and boundaries, about ideological lines that divide us…We often search for ways to close the gaps of misunderstanding…to find understanding and to create peace and harmony for ourselves and others around us. But we seldom find people who dedicate all their lives in pursuit of such noble cause.”

President Jahjaga called Prince Ghazi a “remarkable visionary,” “a brave man” who has inspired people around the world and has promoted harmony between different faiths.

During the public lecture, which attracted local politicians and foreign diplomats, faith community leaders, academics, and civil society representatives, Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad began his lecture by focusing on Divine Love. Prince Ghazi said:

“God never states once, not even once, that he hates anyone or any type of evil doer. He only says that he does not love them. Love is neutral, hatred is negative.”
Prince Ghazi also spoke about human love, as well as about different kinds of love, stages of love, falling in love, love and happiness, and love and death.

H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad is a Professor and world renowned scholar of Islamic Philosophy. He graduated Summa cum laude from Princeton University, holds a PhD from Cambridge University and a PhD from Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

This public lecture marks the end of the Week of Tolerance and Reconciliation in Kosovo, which took place from 23 to 30 May. The Week of Tolerance and Reconciliation is an Interfaith Kosovo initiative, founded and led by Kosovo’s Deputy Foreign Minister Petrit Selimi. The second international conference on interfaith dialogue was the flagship event of this week.  Through a wide array of events each year, global audiences are engaged and domestic faith communities are brought closer to reflect on the importance of interfaith dialogue in nurturing harmony and coexistence between different faith communities.
