Petrit SelimiActing Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo

Petrit Selimi, is a current acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo. He has served as a Deputy Minister at Ministry of Foreign Affairs for two mandates, and he is currently leading Kosovo's diplomacy following the recent election of former Minister Hashim Thaci as a President of the Republic.

At the Kosovo's Foreign Ministry, Selimi has led the portfolio of Kosovo's accession to the international organizations, public diplomacy, interfaith dialogue and countering violent extremism as well as country's innovative digital diplomacy strategy.

For his efforts at promoting interfaith dialogue through Interfaith Kosovo Initiative, Selimi has recently won the prestigious global Doha Award for Interfaith Dialogue. Selimi has also launched several noted initiatives in the field of digital diplomacy and social media and was named as one of the 30 Global thinkers in Digital Diplomacy in a recent publication by Italian diplomat Andreas Sandre. Digital Diplomacy Strategy of Kosovo Foreign MInistry, developed by Deputy FM Selimi was chosen as 4th best in the world by Turkish magazine Yeni Diplomasi in 2013. Selimi has edited several books in the field of soft power and digital diplomacy.

Before joining politics in 2009, Selimi worked as a private consultant in Public Relations and communications for governments as well as global companies in banking, telecom and energy services, including NASDAQ-listed companies.

Selimi was engaged from 2002-2007 in Kosovo's media landscape as an editpr in weekly Java and later as one of the co-founders of Kosovo's Gazeta Express. He also worked as a Media officer at the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. He has also served as member of the Board of Directors of George Soros Foundation in Kosovo as well as Balkan Children and Youth Foundation, established by President Marti Ahtisaari.

Petrit Selimi is married and has one child. He speaks Albanian, English, Norwegian and Serbian fluently. He has received his BA in Social Anthropology in Oslo University and has studied for the MA degree at London School of Economics. He has lectured in LSE, Yale University, Harvard University, Georgetown, George Washington University and NYU numerous times on subjects of his professional interest.
