Minister Hyseni talks to his Slovakian counter-part about recognizing Kosovo

During his stay in New York, Skender Hyseni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo met with Miroslav Lajčák, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia.

New – York, 24 September 2009

The meeting focused on recognition, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. Minister Hyseni asked his Slovak counterpart to review the question of Slovakia’s recognition of Kosovo, bearing in mind the uniqueness of Kosovo’s case. He also affirmed his belief in the impartiality of the advisory opinion, which will be given by the International Court of Justice, the highest judicial body of the United Nations.

Minister Lajčák said that Slovakia viewed Kosovo as a sui generis case, and he noted that “we are aware that the process is irreversible.” He assured Minister Hyseni that Slovakia would be assisting in practical areas, and would retain its forces and officials present in KFOR and EULEX.
