Lifeless body of poet Podrimja to be repatriated in a few days

Prishtina, July 22, 2012 – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo through the Kosovo Embassy in France, is in constant contact with the French authorities while performing forensic procedures and preparations for repatriation of the lifeless body of Kosovar poet, Ali Podrimja.

After receiving the bitter news of having found the body of the poet on the outskirts of the city of Lodève, the entire senior staff of the Kosovo Diplomatic in France, headed by Ambassador Muhamedin Kullashi is heavily engaged to provide the necessary assistance to the French authorities in order to quickly finalize procedures and return Podrimja’s body to Kosovo.

As for the circumstances of his death, French authorities are carrying out all legal procedures and a forensic report on the circumstances of this event is expected within a few days.

Based in the current information, the body of the renowned poet Podrimja was found in a forest on the west side of town about 4 kilometres as the crow flies from the city centre of Lodève. The poet's body was found about two meters from a water flow and his body had no signs of violence, injury or aggression.

The poet's body is currently at the Forensic Clinic in Montpellier, and autopsy procedures shall be performed in the next 2-3 days in order to analyze the cause of death in detail. After the autopsy is completed, the investigative judge should decide to grant the permission for the transportation of the body for repatriation.

Local authorities of the city of Lodeve where the poetry festival “Voix de la Méditerranée” was taking place, under the facilitation of the Mayor of the Municipality, Marie-Christine Bousquet, will organize today at noon a commemorative meeting and other follow-up activities in the city centre in honouring poet Ali Podrimja.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo once again express its most sincere condolences to families, colleagues, friends and all people of Kosovo for the loss of Kosovo peak poet, Ali Podrimja.

Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expresses its considerations and the greater respect for the central and local French authorities, for their extraordinary commitment in the light of this unfortunate case.
