Chad recognizes the Republic of Kosovo

Prishtina, 1 June 2012 – The Republic of Chad is the 91st country to recognize Kosovo as sovereign and independent.

In a verbal note sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, the Government of the Republic of Chad confirmed the recognition of Kosovo’s independence.

“The Government of Chad informs the MFA of the Republic of Kosovo that the Republic of Chad formally recognizes Kosovo as independent and sovereign”, stated the verbal note of the Chad Government.

A month before, (02 May 2012), The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj held a meeting at the Chad Embassy in Paris, with the Foreign Minister of Chad, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

In this meeting, Minister Hoxhaj received confirmation from his counterpart that the Republic of Chad would very soon publish its decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.

Recognition of the Republic of Chad comes at a time when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions involved in the recognition process are making the maximum effort to complete this process.

Chad is in the central-northern part of Africa. In the north, Chad borders Libya, in the east, Sudan, in the South, the Central African Republic, in the south-west, Cameroon and Nigeria, and in the north-west, Nigeria.

The Republic of Chad’s territory is 1,284 million km2 within Northern Africa and over one million people live in it. The capital of Chad is N´Xhamena (N´Djamena). The official state languages are French and Arabic. Since 1996, according to the Constitution approved it is a Presidential Republic.
