Deputy Minister Selimi participates in the European Council on Foreign Affairs

Berlin, 1 June 2012 – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Republic of Kosovo, Petrit Selimi is on a short visit to Berlin, at the invitation of the European Council on Foreign Affairs.

The Council is a Pan-European organization which brings together experts, diplomats, members of national parliaments, leaders of European states and this year’s traditional meeting gathered in Berlin some well-known figures of Euro-Atlantic diplomacy, including the President of the EU Council, Herman Van Rumpuy, Javier Solana, George Soros, Albert Rohan, David Milliband, Ema Bonino, Stefano Sanino, Joschka Fischer, etc.

Deputy Minister Selimi was the only diplomat invited as a special guest from the Balkans to the Council.

The annual meeting of the European Council this year focused on debates about key issues preoccupying European diplomacy today, including the crisis in Syria and Iran, Balkan enlargement issues, the Euro crisis etc.

Deputy Minister Selimi presented the key issues affecting Kosovo’s foreign policy and the general situation in the Balkans.

During this year’s session of the European Council on Foreign Policy, they reported on cooperation between this organization and the MFA of Kosovo, discussing also a long-term agreement by which young Kosovar diplomats would train in the Council’s offices in London, Berlin, Warsaw or Paris, as well as cooperation regarding the organization of the “Gërmia Hill 2” Conference, which this year expects to gather leading figures of Euro-Atlantic diplomacy in Kosovo.
