Ambassador Mirdita was received with high honors by the recently elected President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, with whom he held a productive meeting.

On behalf of the Kosovo Government, Mirdita thanked the German President for the support of Germany and its people, who have stood by the people of Kosovo in their most difficult days.

Ambassador Mirdita also informed President Gauck regarding achievements in various fields, as well as the dynamic of Kosovo’s state-building.

In the meeting, they discussed Albanian culture in general, and praised the great Mother Theresa and the classic literary works of the writer Ismail Kadare, for which President Gauck has great respect.

He also held an important meeting with the Foreign Affairs Advisor of the Chancellor Angela Merkel, Christoph Heusgen.

In this meeting, Ambassador Mirdita thanked the German Government, emphasizing the clear position of Chancellor Merkel with regard to the necessity of changing Serbia’s current approach toward our country.

Heusgen praised the great contribution of Ambassador Mirdita in building the first diplomatic mission of the Republic of Kosovo to the Federal Republic of Germany, a mission which during these years has worked with dedication to strengthening and deepening Kosovar-German inter-state relations.

Ambassador Mirdita held a series of meetings with deputies of various political parties who congratulated him on his work up to now. In addition, Mirdita held meetings with diplomats of many different countries accredited in Berlin, including states which have still not recognized Kosovo.

To mark his departure from office, the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Jean-Claude Perissét, awarded Ambassador Mirdita a "Silver Plate", which is usually given only to Ambassadors which have completed their full four year mandate as plenipotentiary Ambassadors.

At the invitation of the Secretary of State, Ambassador Emily Haber, organized a farewell lunch to mark the conclusion of Ambassador Mirdita’s mandate, to which she invited Ambassadors and political and cultural German personalities.

Amongst those invited, was the well-known Albanian sportsman, the former professional boxer, Luan Krasniqi, who enjoys great respect in Germany.
