Hoxhaj meets Mogherini and Hahn, discussing visa liberalization, SAA and developments in the region

Brussels, May 2, 2017 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj have met today in Brussels with the EU Head of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, and Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn.

In both meetings was discussed about visa liberalization process, highlighting the progress achieved in fulfilling the criteria for liberalization by Kosovo side, which brought a positive recommendation from the European Commission, and about the demarcation as the only remaining criterion.

On the other hand, head diplomat of Kosovo, accompanied by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmi Reçica and the Chair of the Commission for European Integration Njomza Emini, spoke about the SAA and the work in the frame of its implementation, as an important step of approximation with the EU.

Minister Hoxhaj expressed to Mogherini and Hahn the interest of Kosovo to apply for status of candidate for membership to the EU, after implementation of the European reform agenda. “Today I met Mrs. Mogherini and Mr. Hahn, where the central topic was visa liberalization for Kosovo citizens, at that moment when Kosovo MPs would ratify the demarcation agreement with Montenegro. We have also talked about the implementation of the European reform agenda and the Stabilization Association Agreement and the opportunity to apply for status of candidate at the end of such process, and about other issues of bilateral character between Kosovo and the EU”, said Hoxhaj.

In today’s meetings, the parties also talked about the latest issues and developments in the region, as well as tendencies for the influence of anti-European forces in the Balkans. Hoxhaj emphasized that notwithstanding the challenges, Kosovo is steadfast in its Euro-Atlantic orientation.

During the following day, Hoxhaj will meet the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (AFET), whom he will inform about Kosovo achievements with regard to visa liberalization and Kosovo’s European agenda in general.
