Prioritetet e Qeverisë

Kosovo’s Diaspora

The institutions of the Republic of Kosovo prioritize issues relating to Kosovars who live or are staying outside the state of Kosovo.
Protecting and cultivating the identity of Diaspora members, sustainable links between them and the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, offering administrative services, strengthening relations and communications with the Diaspora, offering educational programs, strengthening cultural relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the states where the Diaspora live, are all defined objectives of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

Law on the Diaspora and institutional mechanisms

The Kosovar Diaspora enjoys legal and institutional protection by the Republic of Kosovo.
The Kosovo Parliament, on 15th April 2010, approved the Law on the Kosovo Diaspora, which aims to affect the protection and cultivation of linguistic, cultural and educational identity, among members of the Diaspora and their ties to the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, to help in organizing the Diaspora in different states where the Kosovar Diaspora live, to encourage and develop inter-cultural relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the states where the Diaspora are present.

This law foresees the creation of institutional mechanisms (the Kosovo Diaspora Agency and the Kosovo Cultural Centre for the Diaspora) in order to achieve the law’s objectives and those of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and to coordinate achieving the interests of members of the Diaspora.
