About

Background

Germia Hill Conference is the annual flagship event of the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leading European think-tanks engaged on the issues of Trans-Atlantic cooperation. Inaugural conference in 2011 and the 2011 event were co-organize with the European Council on Foreign Relations. The 2016 event is co-organized with the Aspen Institute Germany.

The conferences are regularly attended by global thinkers, decision-makers and journalists who exchange ideas about the politics of South-East Europe, and European and Transatlantic affairs at-large. The smaller format of Germia Hill Talks is a series of topical seminars organized to bring thought leaders covering events in the Balkans from a wider international perspective.

Over the past few years, the Western Balkans region has been sidelined from the spotlight of international politics by the dramatic events in the Middle East and beyond. The Germia Hill Conference aims at maintaining international awareness of the various regional issues and the wider global implications. At the same time, given the shift of the focus of international attention to common international challenges, Germia Hill provides a rare opportunity for the Western Balkans to engage with the rest of the world and look beyond its regional problems. It helps place the Western Balkans closer to the mainstream of foreign policy debates. Last but not least, the forum supports the goal improving Kosovo’s external role as a contributor to the regional dialogue and good neighborly relations, by using the GH events as an essential component of Kosovo’s public diplomacy toolkit.
