Preshevë, 16 December 2021- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mrs Donika Gërvalla, during her visit to Presheva, was received in a meeting by the mayor of this municipality, Ardita Sinani, and the deputy mayor Ragmi Mustafa.
Together they discussed the current situation and the challenges faced by the Albanians of the Valley, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation with the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
During this meeting as well, Minister Gërvalla reiterated the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to intensify cooperation with the Presheva Valley and spoke about the need to concretize issues and topics that will be subject to continued support from Kosovo and its institutions, both at the regional and international level.
In this regard, they stressed the need for raising the international community's awareness of the passivity of Albanian settlements and addresses in Serbia, of the non-implementation by the Government of Serbia of the three agreements for the Presheva Valley as well as of the violation by Serbia of the human rights of the Albanians in the Valley.
On her part, mayor Sinani, elaborating the requests, stressed the need for inclusion of staff from the Valley in the diplomatic missions of Kosovo, for drafting a plan and program by the Government of Kosovo for the Valley, for the functioning of the Office for the Presevo Valley in the Government of Kosovo and the inclusion of the Valley issue in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
At the end of the meeting, there was a joint conclusion to continue with consultation and mutual coordination in identifying challenges, opportunities and finding solutions and concrete support.
Minister Gërvalla held the next meeting with a group of students from the Presheva Valley, some of whom study at universities in the Republic of Kosovo.
The focus of discussions with students was the issue of recognition of university degrees of Kosovo. The students pointed out that the non-recognition of diplomas is making it impossible for them to return and pursue their professional careers in the Valley.
Following the meetings in Presheva, the Chief Diplomat of Kosovo met with the vice-president of Alternative for Change, Almin Shaqiri, with whom she also discussed the forms of cooperation between the Valley and the Government of Kosovo and the current situation of Albanians in the Valley.
