Brussels, 03 May 2017 – On the second day of the official visit to Brussels, Kosovo Foreign Minister, Enver Hoxhaj held a series of meetings in the European Parliament.
Within the meetings with MEPs, the Friendship Group between the European Parliament and Kosovo was formally established. Minister Hoxhaj thanked Lunacek and other MEPs for the cooperation and concretization of this idea launched months ago.
"Today was a special day in the European Parliament, as the friendship between the European Parliament and Kosovo was established, which will be a good platform for Kosovo's support to the European agenda. Meanwhile, I had the opportunity to report on the developments in Kosovo at the Foreign Policy Commission and to call on the support of many European Parliament MPs for visa liberalisation", said Hoxhaj.
MEP Ulrike Lunacek has estimated that the establishment of the Friendship Group is an important event as meetings and non-formal debates can be held on various important topics. "The establishment of the Friendship Group is important because it means that it will be possible to hold informal meetings and debates with people such as Minister Hoxhaj, or the Heads of Parliamentary Committees for Integration and Foreign Affairs, where topics can be discussed more informally "Said Lunacek.
The Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mrs Njomza Emini and the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmi Reqica, have appreciated the establishment of this group and the need for closer cooperation with the MEPs.
Kosovo's top diplomat Hoxhaj held a meeting with members of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee - AFET, who informed them of the progress on the European agenda, the visa liberalisation process and discussed for the five EU countries that have not recognised Kosovo yet.
