Press Statement

Prishtina, 29 March 2018 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more precisely the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the deportation of Turkish citizens from the Republic of Kosovo. That simply should not have happened under any circumstances.

The Republic of Kosovo had proven to respect contemporary, democratic standards and in this context the arresting and deportation of Turkish citizens, with a regular residence permit in the Republic of Kosovo, is in contradiction with the laws of the country and in a direct confrontation with international norms.

Respecting human rights is a prerequisite of a country’s democratic functioning and no one recognizes their universal importance better than the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, which goes beyond the state-centric concept.

Any treatment of any foreign citizen in the Republic of Kosovo should be based on a transparent process, in full compliance with the Laws of the country, in accordance with the European and international standards, and in line with the Western approach of the respect for human rights.

In the coming days, we will seek responsibility from all involved in this action, so that they will provide all the information that would shed light on the way of organization, arresting and deportation of Turkish citizens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects this action, as well as expresses deep sympathy for the families of those deported
