Solomon Islands recognise Kosovo`s Independence

Prishtina, 13 August 2014 - The state of Solomon Islands has officially decided to recognise the independent and sovereign state of Kosovo.

The decision on recognising the Republic of Kosovo by the Solomon Islands was confirmed to the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Mr. Enver Hoxhaj.
 
Recognition by the Solomon Islands raises to 108 the number of United Nations members states which have recognised the state of Kosovo.

Very soon we will receive the verbal note of Solomon Islands on Kosovo`s recognition, which constitutes the 14th recognition from Pacific Islands Forum member states that includes countries of the Pacific region.

Minister Enver Hoxhaj, in the process of lobbying for concluding the process of Kosovo`s recognition, had many contacts and meetings with his counterpart from Solomon Islands, as well as  with other high representatives of this country.

Minister Enver Hoxhaj during a lobbying tour in Oceania countries to ensure new recognitions for the Republic of Kosovo, among others, has also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Solomon Islands, Mr. Clay Forau Soalao, on which occasion he requested the recognition of Kosovo`s independence by this country.

Solomon Islands are part of a sovereign state which includes a large number of islands in the Oceania, with over 500 thousand residents and is a member of the United Nations as of 1978.
