Fiji’s verbal note recognizing Kosovo arrives
In full accordance with the prior notification about the Republic of Kosovo’s recognition by this state, given two days ago by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, in the Kosovo Government meeting, the verbal note confirmed this important act for the state of Kosovo.
The letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Fiji, Inoke Kubuabola, sent to Minister Hoxhaj, confirmed the official decision of the Republic of Fiji to formally recognize Kosovo’s independence.
“I would like to inform you that by this formal recognition, Fiji expresses its readiness to proceed in establishing formal diplomatic relations between our two states”, stated the letter of Minister Kubuabola, sent to Minister Hoxhaj.
The letter also expressed the will of the Fiji Government, after formal recognition of Kosovo’s independence, to deepen bilateral cooperation and the exchange of experience in international forums.
This year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, has been in frequent contact and held regular meetings with the leaders of this state.
In August, as part of his lobbying trip to Oceania, Hoxhaj visited the Republic of Fiji where he held a meeting with his counterpart Inoke Kubuabola and with the Prime Minister of Fiji, asking them to establish bilateral diplomatic relations.
In addition, in September, during his participation in a meeting of the UN General Assembly, Minister Hoxhaj held another meeting with his counterpart from Fiji, where he received this country’s support for Kosovo.
The Republic of Fiji is in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean; its capital city is Suvan and it has a population of 800 thousand people.
Fiji has been a member state of the United Nations since 1970.
