MFA and MIA agreement on sending police attaches to Kosovo Diplomatic Missions

Prishtina, 8 October 2012 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Enver Hoxhaj and Minister of Internal Affairs, Bajram Rexhepi signed an agreement by which they made possible the sending of liaison officers from the Kosovo MIA to Diplomatic Missions of the Republic of Kosovo, in different countries of the world.

According to this agreement, MIA liaison officers in diplomatic missions will be appointed to support the common fight against organized crime and other forms of criminality, increasing police cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and other countries, as well as improving efficient exchange of official information, in order to prevent and combat criminality.

The duties and responsibilities of liaison officers will be to support the joint fight against the international trafficking of drugs, terrorism, organized crime, the trafficking of arms, illegal immigration and money laundering, as well as contributing to the level of police cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and other states. 

The appointment of liaison officers to diplomatic missions of the Republic of Kosovo will be achieved in procedures in accordance with MIA and MFA legislation.

Posting MIA liaison officers to diplomatic missions is a very important step for strengthening all forms of cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and the authorities of partner states.

Specific cooperation in the joint war against all forms of crime and comprehensive law enforcement is a key priority of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and cooperation to this end, through the police attaches, is anticipated to produce important results in the future.
