MFA announces the competition for mobile applications “Best Kosova App”

Prishtina, September 20, 2012 – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, along with its partners, the British Council, IPKO Foundation, and Norwegian Embassy opened the competition for developers of applications for Android and iOS platform, intended for the global market and aiming to promote the Republic of Kosovo in new technology platforms.

This national competition offers rewards for the development of applications in Android and iOS for categories “Kosovo News” in the field of culture, inheritance, traditions, presenting Kosovar tourism and economy and the best entertainment application on the subject of Kosovo (games, curiosities, etc). Best application winners will be rewarded with 3000 Euros for each category. The winner of best application will also obtain participation at the Global Congress of mobile phone that takes place in Barcelona where they will be able to present the Kosovar App to the global industry. Participants can also register at the APP camp where they will be trained to develop applications and create participating teams.

 MFA and its partners are calling designers, coders and enthusiasts of smart phone applications for iOS and Android to attend the grand national competition for the best Kosovar application directed for the global market.

 The motto of the competition is: “Create an app for your country and receive 3000 Euros for each of the four categories”.

Kushtrim Xhakli, project coordinator and Kosovar IT expert, says that this competition is a good way to develop Kosovar apps market but also to be promoted globally through tablets and mobiles, something that was not done before. 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Petrit Selimi stated that this is one of the first steps in implementing the Digital Diplomacy National Strategy, which is supported by numerous donors.
 
The Norwegian Ambassador, Jan Braathu expressed his satisfaction on starting this competition and said that Norway will continue to invest in the field of technology, education and public diplomacy through innovative projects.

Winners will be announced in the presence of Apple and Google officials and it will be organized by ICK Kosova and IPKO Foundation.
