Ambassador Xhakaliu: Invest in Kosovo

In an article published in a German magazine, Skender Xhakaliu, has called on German businessmen to invest in Kosovo.

In his article, Xhakaliu presented the progress which Kosovo has made in all areas, with special emphasis on the favorable conditions created for lasting economic and political stability.

“The Republic of Kosovo has transformed into an important center connecting central and south eastern Europe, as well as the Adriatic and Black Sea”, wrote Xhakaliu.

The Ambassador described in detail Kosovo’s many economic resources, emphasizing its human resources and illustrating this with the fact that over 50% of the population is under the age of 25.

“To attract foreign investors, especially from Germany, this small Balkan state has worked hard over the last few years. Kosovo has made visible progress in developing a free market and modern economy. In 2011, the Republic of Kosovo achieved economic growth of 5.5%, whereas in the year 2012, it anticipates growth of 4.5%. With the Euro its official currency and inflation of just 3%, in the last five years, Kosovo has managed to create a very stable macro-economic environment”, stated Xhakaliu.

He stated that a very favorable climate has been created for investors and business with a simple and low rate of taxes.

“The Republic of Kosovo has one of the most liberal trade regimes in Europe with an import tariff rate of just 10% and 0% for exports. Kosovo is also a member of the CEFTA agreement and enjoys very favorable access to European Union and US markets”.

He provided information regarding the development of basic legislation offering security for investors.

Ambassador Xhakaliu also discussed  the positive opportunities for future economic development, above all, in the energy sector, the attractive potential of mines with natural mineral resources of lead, zinc, nickel, uranium, silver, gold, cooper and magnesium, as well as the agricultural sector and through the construction of a domestic industry, of basic engineering, food processing, clothing and furniture etc.

“Today, we can freely state that the Republic of Kosovo is a multi-ethnic and democratic state, which by a decision of the International Steering Group at the start of September this year, will become fully sovereign. Kosovars hope that their birthplace will very soon become part of the European Union”, said Xhakaliu.
