Today, Minister Hoxhaj visited the Republic of the Fiji Islands where he held many meetings with state representatives.

Hoxhaj was received in a meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and of International Cooperation of Fiji, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

Minister Hoxhaj asked his counterpart to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries.  Hoxhaj added, however, that a precondition for establishing such relations is first formal recognition by Fiji.

In the meeting, Minister Hoxhaj said that the Republic of Kosovo is interested to have not just diplomatic relations, but also economic exchange, trade, and cooperation in education and culture with Fiji.

Addressing the legality of the declaration of Kosovo’s independence, Hoxhaj emphasized that in 2010 the International Court of Justice brought a clear verdict regarding the legality of Kosovo’s independence.

“Therefore, today, no country in the world has any political or legal reason to delay recognizing Kosovo’s independence”, said Hoxhaj.

On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and of International Cooperation of Fiji, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola welcomed the first visit of Kosovo’s Foreign Minister and said that the Government and people of Fiji are sympathetic toward Kosovo’s people.

According to Minister Kubuabola, Fiji has always had sympathy for Kosovo’s aspirations to be an independent country and is positive toward recognition of the Republic of Kosovo.

During his visit to various Oceanic states, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Enver Hoxhaj held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nauru, Kieren Keke, a country which recognized the Republic of Kosovo on April 23, 2008.

Minister Hoxhaj thanked her for the decision to recognize Kosovo’s independence, which has led to peace, security and stability in Europe.

In the coming days, Minister Hoxhaj will continue visits and meetings with representatives of other states in order to lobby to conclude the recognition process of the Republic of Kosovo.
