The Turkish authorities welcome the opening of the Consulate General of Kosovo in Istanbul

Prishtina, 13 August 2012 – The Government of the Republic of Turkey welcomed the decision of Kosovo’s institutions to open a Consulate General of the Republic of Kosovo in Istanbul.

Through official channels, the Turkish Government has announced that it welcomes the decision of Kosovo’s institutions to open a Consulate General of Kosovo in the city of Istanbul.

While the Turkish Government has agreed to the opening of a consular mission of Kosovo in this city, the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in full coordination with other state institutions dealing with foreign policy, will undertake all necessary steps to start procedures to open the Consulate General in this city of great Turkish political, diplomatic and economic importance.

The decision to open the Consulate General of Kosovo in Istanbul was a topic of frequent discussions recently between Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Enver Hoxhaj, and various institutional and diplomatic Turkish leaders.

The opening of a Consulate General of Kosovo in Istanbul marks another important step in the strategic orientation of Kosovo’s foreign policy, in order to increase its presence in more countries in the world, strengthening the international subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo and making dynamic diplomacy and consular services for Kosovar citizens.

Besides consular services for our citizens in Turkey, the Consulate General in Istanbul, after becoming fully functional, will offer all necessary consular services for compatriots in parts of Asia and Africa.
