Cooperation Agreement between Diplomatic Academies of Kosovo and Turkey concluded

Prishtina, 3 August 2012 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Petrit Selimi and his Turkish counterpart, Naci Koru, have signed the “Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of the Republic of Kosovo and the Diplomatic Academy of the Republic of Turkey”, on Friday, in Prishtina.

The two deputy ministers highly valued the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed the joint will to deepen further the relations and exchange between the two countries and nations.                      

Deputy Minister Petrit Selimi stated that this agreement is part of the intensive cooperation and the exchange between the two states.          

He highlighted the importance of the said agreement for Kosovo’s diplomacy having in mind the long tradition and the important role of the Turkish diplomacy in the region and wider.

“Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey have established a strong cooperation on Balkan issues, on Kosovo issues, lobbying for recognitions and the state of affairs in the world. We carefully monitor the developments in the Arab world and the positive role of Turkey as an active player in finding peaceful and democratic solutions for all peoples living in those areas and we are grateful and thankful for the support the Republic of Turkey is providing to Kosovo, including prior to independence, during the recognition process, with Turkey being one first countries to recognize Kosovo, and now when Turkey is very actively becoming one of the largest economic investors in the Republic of Kosovo”, stated before journalists Minister Selimi.  

On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Naci Koru, pointed out that Kosovo is of special importance for him, diplomacy and the state and people of Turkey in general.

“Kosovo is a country that is respected and loved by the Republic of Turkey. As known, we were among the first to recognize Kosovo’s independence and we always select some of our most excellent diplomats for Kosovo, because Kosovo is very important for us”, claimed Koru.

He further added that since the declaration of independence of Kosovo, Turkey made special efforts to increase cooperation with Kosovo at all spheres.   

Speaking of the Agreement signed, Turkish Foreign Deputy Minister, Naci Koru, stressed that this Memorandum will further increase the academic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries and accordingly, Kosovo diplomats will travel to Turkey and participate at training, symposiums and conferences as well as there will be opportunities for exchange of experiences with Turkish diplomats.

Following media interest on Turkey’s contribution for the increase in the number of recognitions for Kosovo, Turkish Foreign Deputy Minister stated that Turkish diplomacy is strongly committed to the increase in the number of recognitions for Kosovo.                                

“We, since the declaration of independence of Kosovo, made efforts and contributed that Kosovo is recognized by as many countries of the world as possible. As known, we have influence in a number of Arab states and a number of these Arab states has already recognized Kosovo’s independence”, claimed Koru.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Petrit Selimi, also highlighted the strong cooperation between diplomacies of Kosovo and Turkey towards the increase in the number of states recognizing Kosovo.
