Kosova and Liechtenstein to establish diplomatic relations

Prishtina, June 28, 2012 – Principality of Liechtenstein and the Republic of Kosovo have agreed to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Upon request of the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Switzerland, Liechtenstein Embassy in Bern confirmed the agreement of this Principality to establish direct diplomatic relations with the Republic of Kosovo, based on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961.

After this mutual agreement, diplomatic relations between the two countries, through the accreditation of ambassadors, will be established in the near future.

Principality of Liechtenstein has recognized the independent and sovereign state of Kosovo on March 25, 2008, being among the first countries to have taken such a decision.

In the context of ongoing activities to strengthen the international subjectivity of state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo has intensified efforts to strengthen relations and concrete relations with all countries that have recognized Kosovo's independence.

To achieve this objective, the MFA has initiated the process of establishing diplomatic relations with all states that have recognized Republic of Kosovo, either by opening new missions, but also through accreditation of non-resident ambassadors to these countries.
