At the invitation of Minister Mladenov, Deputy Minister Selimi participated in the Sofia Forum

Sofia, 8 June 2012 – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Petrit Selimi is on an official visit to Sofia, in Bulgaria. Deputy Minister Selimi was invited by the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, Nikolaj Mladenov, to participate in the Sofia Forum.

Deputy Minister Selimi is invited to attend as a panelist on the first day of the Forum, in which experiences of democratization and the risks of ethnic policies will be discussed. Other panelists during the first day of the Sofia Forum are foreign ministers: Carl Bildt of Sweden, Vesna Pusic of Croatia, Nikolaj Mladenov of Bulgaria, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria - Borisov as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Macedonia - Teuta Arifi.

During the second day of the Sofia Forum, panelists include the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia, Miroslav Lajcak, the senior diplomat from the State Department, Phil Reeker as well as the former Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini.

Besides the official conference agenda, Deputy Minister Selimi met his Bulgarian counterpart, Ivan Naydenov, with whom he discussed topics of bilateral significance, such as: the signing of bilateral agreements, economic exchange and issues on the regional cooperation agenda.

During the conference, Deputy Minister Selimi gave various interviews for local and global media.

This year, the annual conference organized by the Bulgarian MFA has transformed into a global meeting which has brought together diplomats from the EU, the Balkans and the Middle East and it aims to define the role of the Balkans in the European agenda, like the model of the “Arab spring”. Over 100 guests, experts and diplomats are taking part in the conference.
