Signing of the agreement between the Government of Kosovo and the United States of America further advances the bilateral cooperation and partnership in promoting security and protecting the people of Kosovo and it will help advance professionalism and efficiency of Kosovo borders and law enforcement officers to face with potential incidents involving trafficking of illegal WMD (weapons of mass destruction) and other similar ordnance.

The agreement will pave the way for Kosovo to participate in the US programs designed to support Kosovo to strengthen its capacities to control its borders, to prevent illegal trafficking of weapons of mass destruction and other materials used to construct them. These enhanced capacities will allow Kosovo reach international standards, like the UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and further contribute to the fight to prevent the dissemination of weapons of mass destruction.

With signing of this agreement, we expect to further advance the successful cooperation between our two states in terms of non-proliferation as the United States has been providing a wide range of trainings and educative sessions to the institutions of Kosovo.

US and Republic of Kosovo sign “Fulbright” memorandum of understanding

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo Enver Hoxhaj and the US Ambassador in Kosovo, Christopher Dell, signed today a Memorandum of Understanding on the academic exchange program “Fulbright” at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Prishtina, Kosovo.

The memorandum relies on the continuation of a program which for many years now has marked a successful exchange of dozens of scholarship students between the United States and Kosovo. It also includes participation of Kosovo in financing the exchange and calls on the Government of Kosovo to contribute with $100,000 a year for the next three years. We welcome this initiative which intends to increase the number of scholarships.

The candidates will be selected based on their potential to lead and participate in the “Fulbright” program in order to exchange ideas and to observe the political, cultural and economic institutions of respective states and to launch a joint and important project for the overall welfare of citizens anywhere around the world.

The “Fulbright” program is a key international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States Government and its goal is to increase mutual understanding between the people of America and other people throughout the world.

The program was established in 1946 by legislation presented by the late senator J. William Fulbright from Arkansas and it was sponsored by the State Bureau for Education and Culture within the State Department.
