Minister Hoxhaj submits an official request for recognition to the Thai authorities

Bangkok, 5 May 2012 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, is on a two day visit to the Kingdom of Thailand.

On this occasion, Minister Hoxhaj held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Surapong Tovichakchaikul.

In the meeting, Minister Hoxhaj informed his Thai counterpart about developments in the Republic of Kosovo.

Hoxhaj emphasized that during its five years of independence, the Republic of Kosovo has become a modern, functional, and stable state, comprised of a multi-ethnic society, and at the same time, with sustainable economic growth.

Minister Hoxhaj submitted an official request to the Thai Minister to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.

"We are very determined to establish diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Thailand and to strengthen ties of cooperation and friendship between our two countries and peoples," said Minister Hoxhaj, after submitting his request for recognition to Minister Tovichakchaikul.

The Foreign Minister of Thailand, Surapong Tovichakchaikul, welcomed the visit of Minister Hoxhaj and guaranteed that Thailand would seriously consider the request for recognition.

"In the near future, you will hear positive news for Kosovo," said Minister Tovichakchaikul, adding that Kosovo’s independence has contributed to peace and security in the region and in Europe.

In the meeting, they also discussed economic and trading relations between Thailand and the Republic of Kosovo.

Minister Hoxhaj stressed that, as well as diplomatic relations, there should be economic, trade, educational and cultural cooperation.

"Thai investors are welcome to invest in the Republic of Kosovo, as our country has great potential for capital investment and a legal infrastructure that supports foreign investment, and a young and dynamic population," said Minister Hoxhaj.
