In the meeting, Minister Hoxhaj expressed his full and comprehensive support of the institutions and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo for the aspirations and vision of the Syrian people to put Syria on the path toward democracy.

Hoxhaj said that the aspirations of the Syrian opposition and the aspirations of Kosovo’s people a few years ago are similar, and expressed his support for the Syrian opposition.

“The Government of the Republic of Kosovo will strongly support the Syrian opposition. We are concerned at the situation in Syria, and the massive violation of human rights and also, we are interested, in the future, to support financially the opposition in Syria in some manner and we are interested to support, within our capacities, the requests of the Syrian opposition, so they can realize their aspirations and agenda, and make Syria a democratic country”, said Minister Hoxhaj.

The Minister also recalled that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and Foreign Ministry were the first in the Balkans to officially and publicly support a free and democratic Syria and the vision of its people.

Ammar Abduhamid, the liberal pro-democracy activist in Syria, said that he and the delegation visiting Kosovo are inspired to be in Kosovo and can see how the state is growing, how it is being built and stabilized, transforming into a state that is ready to take very important and symbolic decisions for the world.

“I also think that anyone who sees the conflict in Syria can see the similarity it has with what Kosovo experienced, and so in fact, we are here to learn from your experience, how you managed, in such a short period of time, to stabilize your state, to win international support and to build internal cohesion,” said Abduhamid.

He emphasized that the Syrian democratic opposition wants to follow Kosovo’s example, and he promised that after liberating the country, in the near future, Syria will receive a visit by Kosovo’s Foreign Minister and Syria and Kosovo will establish diplomatic relations, as two states that have successfully managed the transition to democracy, emphasizing that after democracy triumphs in Syria, the recognition of Kosovo will be one of the first issues on the international agenda of this state.
