Austria supports Kosovo on its European path

Prishtina, 19 April 2012 – Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, received Jan Kickert, Political Director of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

In the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Austria, the European perspective of the Republic of Kosovo and the security situation in the north of Kosovo.

Minister Hoxhaj thanked Mr. Kickert for Austria’s support for Kosovo’s state-building and for the strong presence of Austrian forces in Kosovo.

The Austrian Political Director, Jan Kickert, emphasized that Austria will continue to support the Republic of Kosovo, in various fields.

Talking about the Republic of Kosovo’s European perspective, Kickert assured Minister Hoxhaj that Austria will support Kosovo in visa liberalization and during the feasibility study for a Stabilization and Association Agreement.

Minister Hoxhaj emphasized again the importance of the free movement of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo without visas in the Schengen zone.

In the meeting, they also discussed the situation in the north of Kosovo and illegal arrests of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo by the Serbian authorities.

Minister Hoxhaj expressed his concern about these cases and asked that the international community put more pressure on Serbia.
