Kosovo joining the UN

New York, 10 April 2012 – The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Enver Hoxhaj and Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku, continued his visit to the United States of America. Today, in New York, Prime Minister Thaçi was received in the United Nations headquarters, by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon.

The main topic of discussion was recent developments in the Republic of Kosovo. On this occasion, Prime Minister Thaçi informed the UN Secretary General about recent tensions in Mitrovica.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi thanked Secretary Ban Ki Moon for his personal support and the refusal of the United Nations to organize Serbia’s elections inside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, an activity which is contrary to the Constitution and Laws of Kosovo, as well as Resolution 1244.

Among other issues, in the meeting they discussed technical dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and recent political, legislative and economic developments and reforms in the Republic of Kosovo.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi emphasized the importance of supporting Kosovo and re-emphasized his vision and that of the Kosovo Government, for the integration of Kosovo and the entire region in the EU and NATO, as well as, in the not too distant future, Kosovo’s membership of the United Nations.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi requested the personal support of the UN Secretary General to facilitate Kosovo’s participation in the Olympic Games.
