Deputy Minister Gashi on official visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt

Riyadh, 10 April 2012 – On April 7 and 8, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Ibrahim Gashi, went on an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

In Riyadh, he was received by the Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Khalid Al Jindan. The meeting was extremely warm. 

Deputy Minister Gashi informed his Saudi counterpart about political developments in Kosovo and asked him and the authorities of this friendly state, to help Kosovo on two levels, by lobbying for new recognitions in the community of Arab and Islamic states and by bringing investment to Kosovo from this economically developed country.

They talked concretely about arranging bilateral agreements between the two countries as a precondition for deepening economic cooperation.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Gashi visited the MFA Diplomatic Institute of Saudi Arabia, where he signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between this Institute and the newly founded Diplomatic Academy of the MFA of the Republic of Kosovo.

On this occasion, Gashi gave a lecture to diplomats, academics, businessmen and associates of the Diplomatic Institute in Riyadh.

During the day, Deputy Minister Gashi met the Saudi representative at the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and representative of the Islamic Bank.

In the evening, Deputy Minister Gashi, accompanied by the Kosovar Ambassador in Riyadh, Rexhep Boja, and the MFA General Secretary, Nagip Skenderi hosted dinner for 15 ambassadors of states that have not yet recognized Kosovo.

On Monday, the MFA delegation led by Deputy Minister Gashi traveled to Cairo, where he will be received by his Egyptian counterpart. He will also meet the Director of the Diplomatic Institute of the MFA in Egypt.

The main topic of discussion will be reviewing how quickly Egypt can recognize the Republic of Kosovo, as well as other states with which it has influence, and also the start of cooperation between this Institute and the Diplomatic Academy of the MFA of the Republic of Kosovo.
