Deputy Minister Selimi meets leaders of international organizations in Geneva

Geneva, 30 March 2012 – In a one-day official visit to Geneva, where a great number of international agencies and organizations are based, Deputy Minister Selimi met several senior officials from organizations with which the Republic of Kosovo intends to advance its direct interaction and communication.

Deputy Minister Selimi also met with Laura Thomson, Deputy Director of IOM. Thomson was attentively listening to Selimi’s explanations related to the recent developments in Kosovo and the process of Kosovo’s approximation with the multilateral organizations. 

Thomson also expressed readiness to continue advanced discussions with the representatives of Kosovo to further advance the prospects to apply for membership. 

Deputy Minister Selimi, accompanied by RTK Director for International Relations, Bukurije Gjonbalaj and the consul of the Republic of Kosovo to Geneva, Benjamin Nikoliqi, also met with Ingrid Delterne, Executive Director of the EBU, an organization that brings together all European public TV stations and organizes the annual Eurovision festival. Delterne appreciated the willingness of Kosovo to further consolidate its membership and expressed readiness for an immediate approximation of Kosovo towards membership in the ITU. 

Deputy Minister Selimi also met with representatives from the International Employers Organization and discussed about the opportunity for Kosovo employers to be integrated in this international agency. 

Selimi also met with representatives from several UN agencies where Kosovo has not had direct access so far. 

During his short stay in Geneva, Deputy Minister Selimi also held a lecture at the Geneva School of Diplomacy and gave interviews to Swiss media.
