Minister Hoxhaj requests Latin American and Caribbean states to recognize Kosovo

Saint John's- Antigua, 21 March 2012 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, during this week is conducting a visit in several countries of Latin America and of the Caribbean in the line of the agenda of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in recognizing the number of recognitions for Kosovo.

Hoxhaj met with several senior state representatives of Latin American states, Prime Ministers, ministers of foreign affairs, diplomats and other personalities from whom he received support that some of these countries are making positive moves towards recognizing Kosovo.

Minister Hoxhaj expressed the determination of the Government of Kosovo that the process of recognitions of the state of Kosovo be concluded in any form and at any condition and integrate it in the community of independent and sovereign states.

In these meetings minister Hoxhaj stated that the aspiration of the people of Kosovo has been the same as the aspiration of many countries of this part of the world, for freedom, democracy and independence as he described the movements and wars of the people of Kosovo against political, ethnical and economic discrimination.

Hoxhaj thanked these counties who have supported Kosovo in the international political, financial and economical organizations.

“Following the decision of the International Court of Justice who has finally determined the lawfulness of Kosovo’s independence and its international subjectivism, therefore, no country has any reason to postpone the decision of recognizing Kosovo’s independence”, stated Hoxhaj during the meetings he had with statesmen of this part of the world.

During his visit in Latin America, Minister Hoxhaj had a special meeting with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbudas, Winston Baldwin Spencer.


Minister Hoxhaj and Prime Minister Spencer talked about the recognition of the independent and sovereign state of Kosovo by Antigua and Barbuda.

Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs requested the support for and the recognition of Kosovo by Antigua and Barbuda by stressing that the Republic of Kosovo is now a functional state, prosperous, stable, multi-ethnic and has a diverse society and an economy with sustainable growth.
 
Prime Minister Spencer expressed his understanding and support for the progress being achieved in Kosovo and noted that Antigua and Barbuda shall continue to support Kosovo in terms of United Nations processes.
