Kosovo and Montenegro strengthen bilateral relations
During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Ibrahim Gashi, met the State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Nebojsha Kalugjerovic and the political director for bilateral relations, Ramiz Bashic, with whom he discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in all areas, current developments in Kosovo, neighborly relations between our two countries and the latest agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, regarding regional representation.
Referring to the position of the Montenegrin community in Kosovo, Gashi stated that now the Law on the Protection and Promotion of Community Rights has entered into force, according to which the Montenegrin community is defined as equal to all other national, ethnic, cultural, linguistic or religious groups traditionally present in the Republic of Kosovo.
The MFA representatives praised the work of the Kosovar institutions and this step, and the letter of the Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, sent to his Montenegrin counter-part, Milan Rocen was also welcomed in Montenegro.
Gashi was assured by the senior officials of this neighboring state of the full integration and further progress in the representation of Albanians living in Montenegro, at all institutional levels of the state.
During this meeting, Deputy Minister Gashi was received by Ivana Petricevic, head of the Montenegrin Prime Minister’s Cabinet and other colleagues, and they discussed concrete projects, the vitalization of which will assist in advancing cooperation and mutual economic development and they concluded that the two states are ready to open embassies in Prishtina and Podgorica. They also discussed some very important agreements regarding the economy, security and education.
In addition, Deputy Minister Gashi met the Deputy Head of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, Ivo Saveljic. They emphasized the need for Montenegrin companies and products to be present in Kosovo’s market and Kosovar products in Montenegro’s market, adding that in economic planning there is space for more dynamic communication.
“Kosovo is interested that Montenegro be one of its key partners in the region. We hope that we will see more Kosovar products in Montenegro’s market and vice versa, Montenegrin products in Kosovo’s market. We are small and insignificant markets, with integrated economies and global markets, but we can achieve joint projects, said Gashi.
Meanwhile, Ivo Saveljic said that recently there is increased interest from Montenegrin companies in the Kosovo market and welcomed the idea of organizing an economic forum in Prishtina, to promote Montenegrin companies and products.
Deputy Minister Gashi said that now a long list has been prepared of areas where the two neighboring states can cooperate, in concrete projects, which will help intensify economic relations between the two states.
