Prime Minister Thaçi: Republic of Kosovo takes pride in being a European state and is willing to take its place in European Union, NATO and United Nations

On the first day of his official visit to Brussels, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, met with the Vice-President and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness, Catherine Ashton.

During the meeting, there was discussion about the European agenda of Kosovo and other steps to further expedite this agenda.
 
In a press conference following the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi thanked Baroness Ashton for all her contribution in support of the European agenda of Kosovo. It was a joint assessment that the future of Kosovo and of other countries in the Western Balkans is in the European Union and NATO.
 
Prime Minister Thaçi pointed out that the agreement reached between Kosovo and Serbia on regional cooperation and the one on integrated border management mark a historical moment not only for Kosovo and Serbia, but also for the European Union.

“I strongly believe that the steps we are taking are difficult because of the past, but they are important and decisive steps for our joint European perspective. The Republic of Kosovo is proud of being a European state and is ready to take its place in the European Union, NATO and the United Nations,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.
 
The head of the European Union foreign policy, Catherine Ashton, commended the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, on the agreement reached between Kosovo and Serbia and acknowledged the contribution of Prime Minister Thaçi, along his vision and leadership.
 
Baroness Ashton said that with this agreement, Kosovo will participate and speak for itself in more than 35 various regional forums and will also sign agreements reached itself.
