Signing of Status of Forces Agreement between The United States of America and The Republic of Kosovo
The signing of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between the Government of Kosovo (GoK) and the United States of America reaffirms and strengthens the deep partnership between the two countries. It supports our ongoing bilateral cooperation and partnership to promote the safety and security of the people of Kosovo and to contribute to stability and peace in the Balkans.
The SOFA provides the legal framework within which American military and U.S. Department of Defense civilian personnel who are not part of the NATO mission will operate in Kosovo. On that basis, these personnel will be working with members of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) to further develop the KSFs capacity to perform its four core missions of Firefighting, Search and Rescue, Hazardous Material Disposal, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
