Bosnia and Herzegovina should not confuse sports with politics

Prishtina, August 8, 2018 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo expresses deep regret for the unreasonable delays and the systematic difficulties of visa-issuing procedures for members of the U16 Kosovo Representative, the European Championship FIBA-U16, to be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 9 to 18 August 2018.

Kosovo has become a full member of the International Basketball Federation for more than three years, so trying to put political obstacles with the obvious purpose of jeopardizing the participation of the representative of the Republic of Kosovo in this sporting event up to the last moments, not only violates the basic European principle of Freedom of Movement, but also the Organization's own rules, for which we will seek accountability.

Exercising psychological pressure on the Kosovo National Team in relation to these obstacles, considering that they were supposed to conduct their training today in Sarajevo before playing in the first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina tomorrow is malicious and against spirit of sports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo reminds Bosnia and Herzegovina that despite the political attitudes, representatives of the Republic of Kosovo have participated in sport events, were respected and honored with their state symbols and flag by state authorities and representatives of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the European Union and the ally and partner states to react urgently to this issue.
