Prohibition of the former President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo and a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Hivzi Islami, to visit his family in Presevo

Prishtina, August 8, 2018 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo considers the action of the Serbian authorities to ban the former President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo and a member of the European Academy of Science and Arts, Mr.Hivzi Islami, to visit his family in Preshevë/Presevo as inferior, irresponsible and unacceptable.

Such behavior to separate Academician Islam from the rest of the family simply recreates the sad memories of the dark history of the policies of our northern neighbor - Serbia and strengthen the conviction for the apparent lack of political will to implement the Agreements reached in Brussels between the two states and lack of expressed institutional commitment to full normalization of relations between our two countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers that today's action of Serbia's Institutions is at odds with any human value and a serious violation of Freedom of Movement as a fundamental European principle.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo will address this issue through diplomatic channels to EU representatives and the wider international community and will urge not to repeat such cases.
