Kosovar Foreign Minister met with the President of the European Parliament

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kosovo H.E. Mr. Skender Hyseni met with the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, on Tuesday.

During a long and friendly meeting, Minister Hyseni informed Mr. Pottering on the developments in Kosovo since the declaration of the independence on February 17, 2008. Minister Hyseni informed Mr. Pottering on strengthening democratic institutions and their fully functionality, the process of recognizing Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country, economic and security situation, especially emphasizing on Kosovo’s North part.

The Kosovar Foreign Minister Hyseni stressed out the importance of the full functionality of EULEX and the process of ending the mandate of UNMIK in Kosovo. Foreign Minister emphasized again the European perspective for the people and institutions of Kosovo.

He also expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for the huge support to Kosovo, while seeking for further support to the new Balkans nation in the future as well. Minister Hyseni expressed the hope that the five remaining countries of the EU that have not recognized yet Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country will change their positions, while requesting particularly support for Kosovo in the realm of further recognitions.

Meanwhile, the President of European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, commended Foreign Minister Hyseni for the achievements of Kosovo and has ensured him that the European Parliament and personally will continue to support Kosovo on its path towards development and the European integration.
The European MPs Doris Pack and Ingo Friedrich from the Pan-European Group were also present at the meeting.
