KOC recalls Majlina Kelmendi’s golden Olympic medalPrishtina, 8 August 2017 – Kosovo’s Olympic Committee celebrated the anniversary of Majlinda Kelmendi’s Olympic medal, which she won in Rio, Brazil on 07 August 2016. On this occasion, the Olympic Committee published the book “Golden Debut” dedicated to Majlinda and her historical success.
The ceremony organized in the square “Zahir Pajaziti” in Prishtina, with many guests and citizens, was also attended by the main characters of the event, namely Majlinda Kelmendi and her coach Driton Kuka.
Kelmendi stated that 7th of August 2016 will be a memorable moment in her career, reports KTV. Driton Kuka, coach of Majlinda Kelmendi, stated that this was an unforgettable date as well, and compares Majlinda Kelmendi to Lionel Messi in football. The event organisers had prepared a surprise for Driton Kuka bringing him his favourite shirt, which he used in accomplishing many successes. The head of Kosovo Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani, also spoke appreciatively of Majlinda Kelmendi and Driton Kuka’s success.
The Secretary of the Olympic Committeee spoke with regard to the first publication of such nature. This event was accompanied by enjoyable surprises, whereby at the end of the ceremony, Majlinda Kelmendi and Driton Kuka danced along “Art Disigne” dance group, hence showcasing their dancing talents. Majlinda Kelmendi is the first athlete to bring Kosovo a golden medal from the Olympic Games. In the finale, the judoka from Peja had defeated the Italian judoka, Odette Giuffrida
