Alban Ukaj competes for best actor in the Tokyo festival

Prishtina, 20 October – Koha Ditore has heard that the well-known Kosovar actor, Alban Ukaj, has been nominated for “best actor” in the 24th edition of the international film festival in Tokyo. The film “J-A-C-E” (Just Another Confused Elephant), in which Ukaj plays the key role, will be premiered at this festival on the 24th of this month. This film which is a co-production of Greece, France and Montenegro has also been entered in the official competition for best film at this festival, “Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix”, which is worth 50 thousand dollars. The Greek director, Menelaos Karamaghiolis, has made the film about a Greek-Albanian child who the mafia forces to kill his father.

It was the Ukaj himself who spoke to “Koha Ditore” from Sarajevo to tell them about the film.

“It is the odyssey of a child who the mafia force to kill his father, after which he decides never to talk again”, said Ukaj. In the entire film he has just two lines.

“It is not because he is deaf-mute but because he refuses to talk”, he said.

Fear, murder and mistreatment are woven together in the 142 minute story in the film which is both drama and thriller. It was filmed in various locations, including Athens and Macedonia.

The judges who will evaluate the film in the competition for best film will be well-known names from Asiatic and world cinema such as: Edward Pressman, Kees Kasander, Fan Bingbing, Masahiro Kobayashi and Reiko Kruk.

Besides the premiere on 24 October, the film will be shown on the big screen in Tokyo again three days later. The festival opens on October 22 and will last 8 days.

“After the premiere there will be discussion with artists and journalists there”, said Ukaj, who will travel to the Japanese capital the day before the premiere.
