“DokuFest” ready to celebrate its tenth jubilee

All necessary preparations have been prepared for smooth short film and documentary movie festival “DokuFest” to take place in Prizren, and which this year marks its tenth year. This year’s edition starts on July 23rd and will continue until July 31st.

According to the artistic director Veton Norkullari, “DokuFest” is one of the greatest cultural events in the country, keeping this way the long tradition of the global movie achievements ongoing. Nikollari said that there are more than 180 films from 55 countries who will be competing in the various festival categories, but let’s not forget that there won’t be movies alone to full up the schedule of this festival. Moreover, Nikollari point out: Certainly, apart from the main aspect of it, which are the films and the prizes to be awarded, we will also have roundtables, panels and workshops for all new film-makers and will delved in the retrospective of the past nine years of the festival”.

This year’s edition of “DokuFest” is further enriched by numerous international artists. One night before the beginning of the festival, on July 22, a photo exhibition, “Transit”, will be opened by the Norwegian photograph Espen Rasmussen and this will be in the premises of the Hamam Museum. The exhibition displays the journeys of the refugees of the five European countries which were shot during a Rasmussen’s journey through across Europe.

The festival will be enriched with the arrival of the well-known designer and illustrator Mirko Iliq who on July 24th, will lecture on the overloaded political and social design. Iliq served as the artistic director for the publishing of the well-known international magazine “New York Times” and has won several international prizes on design. The English singer with worldwide fame, PJ Harvey, will also be in this festival. In this context we can also mentioned showing a cycle of 12 movies prepared by the Irish director Seamus Murphy

Meanwhile, according to the Public Relations director in this year’s edition of the festival, Nota Deda, this time, “DokuFest” will show another 40 films dedicated to DokuKids program. The festival will also have a entertainment section called DokuNights.

“Every night, at the Park of Marashi, starting at 23:30, there will be concerts featuring various groups.  The Macedonian band “Blla Blla Blla”, the Austrian band “Sofa Surfers”, “Bei the fish”, DJ Totoni and many others will be driving the public totally wild who will be entertained in DokuNights”, Deda says, adding that this year the festival will receive about 300 guests, which is about 40 percent more than the previous year.

“We have a lot of guests, directors, well-known actors and we have 7 small cinemas where viewers will be able to watch the films”, stated Deda.

The ceremony of awarding the “DokuFest” prizes will take place on the last day, whereas the midnight and the last night will be kept available to show the winning films only.

Needless to say, apart from getting to know other cultures and establishing mutual friendships, this festival also has its impacts in stimulating our cinematics in producing films but also in affirming our country in the international arena.
